How does Edge Eyewear guarantee safe products?

To avoid improper safety evaluations and biases, all Edge Eyewear glasses are independently tested by professionals at COLTS Laboratories        . Surprisingly, many safety eyewear manufacturers choose not to test their products, while others perform their evaluations in-house. These practices present a serious conflict of interest. The integrity of testing and reporting can be compromised, resulting in non-compliant and unsafe eyewear. Edge Eyewear’s frequent third party testing guarantees compliance with ANSI Z87.1+2010 and Military MCEPS GL-PD 10-12 standards.

All Edge Eyewear is tested in independent laboratories         for compliance with:

  • ANSI Z87.1+2010

  • Military Ballistic MCEPS GL-PD 10-12

Below are several (but not all) tests that are required by the ANSI standard.

 

SLOW MOTION SERIES - LAWN MOWER

HIGH MASS IMPACT

*Section 6.2.2 - Spectacle frames and lenses shall be capable of resisting a 500 gm (17.6 oz.) spike that is dropped from a height of 127 cm (50 in.).

PENETRATION TEST

*Section 6.2.4 - Lenses shall be capable of resisting penetration by a weighted needle with a total weight of 44.w gm (1.56 oz.) dropped from a height of 127 cm (50 in.).

 

Light Management

UVC (180-280 nm) - Exposure to high levels of this light without proper sunglass lens filtration may cause damage to all layers of the cornea.

UVB (280-315 nm) - Exposure to high levels of this light without proper sunglass lens filtration may cause permanent cateracts and lens damage.

UVA (315-380 nm) - Exposure to high levels of this light without proper sunglass lens filtration may produce photokeratitis often referred to as "welders flash".

All Edge Eyewear lenses provide 99.9% protection from UVA/UVB/UVC rays.

Polarized Lens

In 1999, Edge Eyewear became the first company to offer a Polarized lens in safety glasses. Because light can be extremely harsh and blinding to the eye, Polarized lenses feature a special filtering layer that blocks out reflected light from below and glare from above. By allowing only direct light to enter, this lens maximizes the ability to see without excessive blinding light.

Polarized technology is found in Acid GambitBlade RunnerBlade Runner XL,    Falcon,    Hamel     and 

Overlord Kit.

G-15 Lens

The U.S. Air Force engineered this specialized technology for used in aviator lenses during the 1950s. Through extensive experimentation with the light spectrum, it was found that transmission of green and yellow light could be maximized at 550 nanometers (the two colors best perceived by the human eye). The outcome is a neutral and true-to-life perspective, which results in a noticeable cooling sensation for the eyes. Edge Eyewear is the first company ever to offer a safety-rated G-15 lens.

Tiger's Eye Lens

Edge Eyewear is proud to be the FIRST COMPANY EVER to offer a Blue Light Filter lens in safety glasses. Blue light comes into your eye in a shorter wavelength, causing it to focus too far in front of the retina. The result is a blue blur which reduces the sharpness of things and causes eyestrain, particularly when you’re driving. Our copper-colored lenses filter out the right amount of blue light to GIVE YOU GREATER DEPTH PERCEPTION. YOUR SURROUNDINGS WILL APPEAR BRIGHTER AND SHARPER.

Provides contrast and image definition while offering a cooling sensations to the eyes. Designing by the U.S. Air Force to maximize transmission of light at 555 nm (green/yellow light). A great lens for a variety of bright conditions.

Polarized Gradient 

The perfect all-around tint for shading in normal light conditions. Features a special filter layer that blocks out reflected light from below and glare from above. By allowing in only direct light, this lens MAXIMIZES your ability to see what you want to see by eliminating glare and reflections.

Polarized Smoke

Polarized Smoke lenses provide the perfect all-around tint for bright light conditions. This popular lens color blocks the brightest sunrays without producing any color distortion. The addition of a polarizing filter increases clarity by reducing glare.

Polarized Copper

Polarized Copper lenses make bright and variable conditions appear brighter and filter high levels of blue light. This "Blue Light Filter" lens relieves eye fatigue by increasing depth perception and contrast, making it the ideal tint for daytime driving and golfing. The addition of a polarizing filter increases clarity by reducing glare.

Light Blue

Light Blue lenses decrease eye fatigue that results from yellow light. They are perfect for use in settings with yellow incandescent, yellow fluorescent, or sodium vapor lighting.
